About The Color Concierge

Yes, it is! But the type of greige paint colors in-demand today are shifting to warmer hues that lean more toward beige than gray.

Greige paint colors started to grow in popularity in the 2010s, when crisp whites and grays were everywhere. Sherwin-Williams Agreeable Gray (Color Review Article) was the brand’s top-selling paint for many years (and is still quite popular).

In the last six months of 2024, we’ve seen a shift from lighter and cooler neutrals like Classic Gray (Color Review Article) and Stonington Gray (Color Review Article) to warmer greiges and taupes.

Taupes are warmer and have more red undertones than a typical greige, which have green, blue or violet undertones, as seen in the image below.

Four taupe and greige paint swatches

Some of our current favorite neutral paint colors for 2025 are taupes and greige paint colors with warm, green undertones, like Benjamin Moore Ranchwood and Benjamin Moore Rockport Gray featured above.

You can see how much warmer these colors are compared to the greige hues with blue and violet undertones. They will keep your home feeling warm, cozy and inviting.

What is the best way to sample taupe and greige paint colors?

We always recommend testing paint colors in your home because lighting can completely change how a color looks, both in interiors and exteriors.

In the old days, this meant we painted a large poster board with sample pots and a huge mess.

Now we have a better way to test paint, with Samplize Peel-and-Stick samples!

  • Samples pre-painted with two coats of real paint from the manufacturer.
  • Large 9” x 14” samples to see the color better in the lighting.
  • Delivered overnight
  • Colors are accurate
  • Less expensive than painting a large poster board with sample pots
  • No mess, and no toxic paint to dispose of

I use these in my own color consulting practice for exact results.  Discover Samplize peel-and-stick paint samples. Throughout this post, look for Samplize buttons to get samples of all of the colors we feature.

Best Taupe Paint Colors for 2025

Explore our picks for the best taupe paint colors if you’re painting your home in 2025. These hues are truly timeless, so while they may be trending now they’ll look beautiful on the wall for years to come.

SW Egret White

Although it has “white” in the same, Sherwin-Williams Egret White (Color Review Article) is actually much darker than you’d expect for an interior white. Because it’s muted, many people think it’s a gray paint color, but it’s really more of a taupe.

SW Egret White pairs really well with warm pink or peachy beiges with reddish or pink undertones and violet-gray neutrals. This color also flows nicely with muted blue paint and other pops of color.

Benjamin Moore Pale Oak

Benjamin Moore Pale Oak (Color Review Article) is a light greige color that leans toward taupe. It is a versatile neutral paint color that looks great in a bright or dark room.

I love to pair Pale Oak with warm wood furniture and floors, and a great way to brighten a home that was previously painted with dark Tuscan colors.

I also like Pale Oak for rooms that have lots of foliage outside – the warm taupe tones neutralize the green colors that can reflect through the windows.

Benjamin Moore Stone Hearth

Benjamin Moore Stone Hearth (Sample) is a mid-toned taupe color. While it’s a bit dark to work as a whole-house paint color for every home, it’s a great option for an accent wall or accent room that is still neutral.

It looks so warm and inviting in the powder room in my former home, pictured below. It’s also a great option for anyone looking for a neutral hue to sell their home (Article). This powder room is North facing. This room had a large window with a north-facing light. Although the light was cool, the large window brightened it up.

Best Warm Greige Paint Colors for 2025

Explore our picks for the best greige paint colors heading into 2025. These colors are a great option if you’re trying to transition your home away from a cool gray or crisp white color scheme. They still pair well with many color palettes but bring more warmth to a space.

Benjamin Moore Gray Mist

Benjamin Moore Gray Mist (Color Review Article) is a warm, very light greige paint color that some consider a darker off-white. It has enough vibrancy to work well in a variety of spaces, including those with lots of natural light and those with less sunlight.

Gray Mist (Sample) is warm thanks to its green undertones. While it is technically a light gray, it’s a great alternative for a homeowner who wants a warm white wall color but doesn’t want to risk a color looking yellow on the wall or looking too washed out in a very sunny room.

BM Seapearl

Benjamin Moore Seapearl (Color Review Article) is very similar to BM Gray Mist. It’s not quite a cream, but still soft and light on the wall with enough pigment to look warm and inviting. This is a great option for homeowners who don’t like gray but also want something with a bit more pigment than a traditional white paint color.

Seapearl’s undertones are a very subtle green. This makes this color so unique – it looks like creamy off-white paint on the wall but doesn’t have noticeable yellow undertones.

BM Natural Cream

Benjamin Moore Natural Cream (Color Review Article) is a beautiful warm greige paint color that really doesn’t get the attention it deserves. It’s one of our favorites to recommend to clients!

BM Natural Cream has the neutrality of Revere Pewter (Color Review Article) but is lighter. It has the warmth of Edgecomb Gray (Color Review Article), without the occasional flash of violet.

Even though it’s a greige, it’s so clean and fresh that it can look like a darker creamy white inside – perfect for the warm neutral paint color trends of 2025!

BM Edgecomb Gray

Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray (Color Review Article) is a color I reach for when I have a client with very earthy Tuscan finishes that need to be updated. It also looks great in modern homes with crisp white countertops and backsplashes.

I also love BM Edgecomb Gray cabinets for a light and bright kitchen that isn’t stark or cold, as pictured below.

Edgecomb Gray is a versatile neutral that looks great in both brightly lit or low-light rooms. Soft green undertones keep it looking warm and inviting with just about any type of flooring, furniture and decor. In rooms with lots of light, like the room below, it looks surprisingly light, warm and lovely!

BM Revere Pewter

A swatch of Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter paint

Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter (Color Review Article) is a warm, greige paint color that has strong green undertones. It doesn’t have the fleshy tones that you sometimes see with Agreeable Gray (Color Review Article), which has green undertones with flashes of violet.

Revere Pewter is a classic, versatile greige paint color that can be used in just about every room of the house, from living rooms and kitchens to bedrooms and bathrooms. We love to use this for individual rooms to give them a cozy look and feel. These days, it is generally too dark to use as a whole-house paint color.

It pairs beautifully with warm stone and natural wood floors. It’s light enough that a room will feel bright and airy while still having a good amount of color on the walls, as pictured in the client’s living room below.

Key Learning Points

Neutral paint colors are always in style. But the type of neutral hues in demand has shifted over the years since I first became a paint color consultant. As we head into 2025, some of our favorite neutral hues are taupe and warm greige paint colors.

  • Cool greige paint colors with blue and violet undertones are becoming less popular, while warm greige paint colors with green undertones and taupe paint colors are growing in popularity.
  • These warm, inviting paint colors can be used for a whole-house hue or for individual rooms and even cabinets.
  • Taupe and warm greige paints work well in a variety of lighting, whether the room has low light or is flooded with light.

Remember: NEVER, EVER use paint matches from a different brand than the one specified. Results are poor and there are no standards for the sheens.  Even though your painter may truly believe it can be done, don’t do it. See results in our paint matching guide (Article).

No matter what, always test your paint colors. It’s a standard best practice. Whenever I test my paint colors, they are perfect, and when I don’t test they turn out wrong. Learn how to test your paint colors like a pro (Article).
