A bucket of BM Maritime White paint

Like many paint colors, Benjamin Moore Maritime White’s name isn’t that accurate. Because in reality, Maritime White isn’t a white paint color at all. Instead, it’s a soft, warm, light beige.

If you’re looking for a light, warm paint color that won’t look yellow on the wall, Maritime White could be right for you. Keep reading to learn all about BM Maritime White paint from our paint color consultants.

About The Color Concierge

What color is Benjamin Moore Maritime White?

Maritime White (Sample) is a warm, creamy paint color that feels so cozy. I don’t consider it a white, off-white or cream as an interior color. It’s closer to a light beige.

What is the LRV of Maritime White?

Maritime White’s LRV is 71.6. This color is light-reflecting but also has enough pigment that it won’t look white on the wall. Even outdoors, it has enough pigment to look warm and inviting.

Is Benjamin Moore Maritime White warm or cool?

Maritime White is definitely a warm paint color. That warmth is one of the reasons this color has been growing in popularity. In 2025, more and more homeowners are reaching for warm beige paint colors (Article) and similar hues instead of cooler whites and grays.

What are the Maritime White undertones?

Maritime White’s undertones are part of what makes this color so unique. While many warm white and beige paint colors have yellow undertones, Maritime White has warm pinkish-apricot undertones. This is great if you want a warm, light paint color that won’t look yellow in place.

Will Maritime White look pink or orange?

In very warm lighting, it’s possible that Maritime White could look a bit pink or orange on the wall, thanks to its pink/apricot undertones. However, in most cases this won’t be an issue. Be sure to test the paint in the room you plan to use it in and review your samples at all different times of day to ensure you light the way it looks in your lighting.

Sample BM Maritime White

We always recommend testing paint colors on your home because lighting can change a color completely, both with interiors and exteriors.

In the old days, this meant we painted a large poster board with sample pots and a huge mess.

Now we have a better way to test paint with Samplize Peel-and-Stick samples!

  • Samples pre-painted with two coats of actual paint from the manufacturer.
  • Large 9” x 14” samples to see the color better in the lighting.
  • Delivered overnight
  • Colors are accurate
  • It is less expensive than painting a large poster board with sample pots
  • No mess and no toxic paint to dispose of

I use these in my color consulting practice for exact results.  Discover Samplize peel-and-stick paint samples:

Using BM Maritime Interior Paint

Benjamin Moore Maritime White is a wonderful light, warm beige that transitions into a white. Below, explore some of our favorite Maritime White rooms and get our best tips for using Maritime White interior paint.

Benjamin Moore Maritime White Bedroom

Maritime White is a lovely, calming bedroom paint color (Article). I love to use this color when clients want a light and airy bedroom but don’t want to use a true white.

In our client’s home, a guest bedroom is painted with Maritime White. You can see how even in this bright space with lots of natural light, it looks warm and cozy on the wall.

Benjamin Moore Maritime White Bathroom

Maritime White is also a great bathroom paint color if you want a bright, spa-like bathroom that feels inviting. It’s also a wonderful hue if you want to update a bathroom that has warm, Tuscan finishes like our client’s bathroom below.

Maritime White is warm enough to tie into the dark beige tile and flooring, but light enough to make the space feel more modern and fresh. I love the way it looks paired with the warm brown vanity and black hardware in this space.

Benjamin Moore Maritime White Laundry Room

This client’s home also featured a Maritime White laundry room, pictured below. This small room has no windows but still looks bright and lovely thanks to the warm, Maritime White walls.

Is BM Maritime White trim a good idea?

Maritime White is really not light enough to use as an interior trim and ceiling white color (Article). While you could technically drench a room with this color on the walls and trim, I prefer to use white trim that provides more contrast and shows the depth and warmth of this color.

Can I paint Maritime White cabinets?

Yes! Maritime White cabinets would look beautiful as an alternative to traditional white kitchen cabinets. Maritime White looks fabulous with limestone floors and other accents, as well as warm quartzite countertops such as Taj Mahal.

In the picture of our client’s home below, you can see a limestone accent wall on the left and a Maritime White bedroom wall on the right at the end of the hall. These finishes look really beautiful together!

Is Benjamin Moore Maritime a good whole house color?

Yes, BM Maritime White can be a fantastic whole-house paint color (Article)! It’s light enough to look good in just about any space and still looks warm and inviting in very bright light.

Using BM Maritime White Exterior Paint

We’ve had great results using Benjamin Moore Maritime White as an exterior “white” body color, especially with stucco siding.

However, its undertones may look too pink in the bright sun to use an exterior white trim color (Article). Just like with interior paint projects, be sure to test Maritime White outdoors and with all other exterior finishes before painting your house with it.

When should I avoid BM Maritime White?

Maritime White doesn’t look good with yellows, mustards and warmer greens with lots of yellows in them. The undertones clash with Maritime’s pinkish-apricot undertones. As color consultants, we have been trained not to mix beiges with pink undertones with yellow beiges.

Which type of paint colors look good with Maritime White?

There are so many great options for pairing Maritime White with other hues. Below are some of the best Maritime White coordinating colors.

BM Maritime White with Blue Paint Colors

I love to pair Maritime White with muted and earthy versions of blue paint colors. Benjamin Moore Britannia Blue (Color Review Article), pictured below, is a great option.

BM Maritime White with Teal Paint Colors

Maritime White also works well with blue-green and teal paint colors, as well as cooler greens with lots of blue in them. Benjamin Moore Bella Blue (Color Review Article), pictured in my powder room below, is one of my favorite teal hues that would look really lovely paired with Maritime White paint.

What’s the best white trim color to go with Maritime White walls?

The best trim and ceiling colors for Maritime White walls are Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace, Benjamin Moore Cloud White and Benjamin Moore White Dove (Color Review Articles).

Warmer whites like Simply White and Swiss Coffee (Color Review Articles) won’t work. Simply White has too much yellow in it and Swiss Coffee is too dark and won’t have enough contrast.

In general, I recommend staying away from cream colors that are very yellow. However, sometimes they can work. The photos from our client’s home throughout this blog post, for example, feature Sherwin-Williams Alabaster trim and it turned out great.

Although SW Alabaster has some warmth from yellow undertones, it isn’t very much and not noticeable.

Best Benjamin Moore Maritime White Alternatives

There are many good options if you want a hue similar to Maritime White, both from Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams.

BM Maritime White vs. SW Aesthetic White

BM Maritime White vs SW Aesthetic White

Although they have similar LRVs, Benjamin Moore Maritime White is much warmer than Aesthetic White, which has cool violet undertones. Aesthetic White is also a touch lighter than Maritime White, with an LRV of 73.

BM Maritime White vs BM Ballet White

BM Maritime White vs BM Ballet White

Benjamin Moore Ballet White (Sample) is a warm, off-white paint color with an LRV of 72. It’s also one of our favorite Benjamin Moore white paint colors (Article). It’s similar to Maritime White but has warm green undertones instead of pink, so it looks different on the wall.

BM Maritime White vs SW Divine White

BM Maritime White vs SW Divine White

With an LRV of 72, Sherwin-Williams Divine White (Samplize) is only a tiny bit lighter than Maritime White. It also has very similar warm undertones that lean toward pinky/peach.

BM Maritime White vs SW Accessible Beige

Sherwin-Williams Accessible Beige (Color Review Article) has warm green undertones with flashes of taupe. It can work in many of the same spaces as Maritime White, but it’s much darker, with an LRV of 58.

BM Maritime White vs BM Muslin

Benjamin Moore Muslin (Sample) is another great Maritime White alternative. It has warm pink undertones that are very similar to Maritime White’s. However, it is a bit darker, with an LRV of 66.54.

What is the Best Maritime White Sherwin-Williams Alternative?

If you want the color of Maritime White but need to use Sherwin-Williams paint, I recommend Sherwin-Williams Divine White. While it’s not an exact match, it’s the closest option and will look very similar in place.

Benjamin Moore Maritime White Pros and Cons

Like any paint color, BM Maritime White has its benefits and its downsides. Here’s a quick recap:

Pros:

  • Maritime White has enough pigment to not look washed out or cold, even in very bright rooms or outdoors.
  • Its warm undertones make this color look so cozy and inviting without the risk of looking yellow on the wall.
  • Maritime White is light enough to be used as a whole-house paint color but is also great for secondary living spaces like bedrooms and bathrooms.

Cons:

  • Its pink/apricot undertones are very warm. In certain lighting the color may look a bit pink or orange, so be sure to test carefully.
  • It’s a bit too pink to be used as a “white” exterior trim color.
  • Maritime White doesn’t work well as an interior white trim color, either. It’s not light enough to provide a good contrast with many paint colors.

Key Learning Points

Benjamin Moore Maritime White is a gorgeous, warm paint color perfect for bedrooms, bathrooms and even larger living spaces.

  • Maritime White is not a white paint color at all. Instead, it’s a warm, light beige hue.
  • Maritime White pairs well with crisp, clean white trim colors like Chantilly Lace, Cloud White and White Dove. A darker white paint color won’t provide enough contrast with Maritime on the wall.
  • We love to use Maritime White walls with muted blue hues, teal paint colors, and cool greens. Avoid using pairing Maritime White with yellow colors.

Remember: NEVER, EVER use paint matches from a different brand than the one specified. Results are poor and there are no standards for the sheens.  Even though your painter may truly believe it can be done, don’t do it. See results from paint matching here.

No matter what, always test your paint colors. It’s a standard best practice.  Whenever I test my paint colors, they are perfect, and when I don’t test they turn out wrong. Learn how to test your paint colors here.
