Learn all about Benjamin Moore Crystal Springs in this paint color review.
BM Crystal Springs is a bold blue-green paint color. I’ve not used it very much in my color consulting practice because I always thought it would be way too bright. But a recent client of mine really pushed me to use it, and I’m so glad she did!

What Color is Crystal Springs Paint?
Benjamin Moore Crystal Springs (Sample) is a lighter blue with green undertones. It’s a warm blue, but not quite an aqua color.
What is the BM Crystal Springs LRV?
The LRV of Benjamin Moore Crystal Springs is 74.29. LRV is short for Light Reflectance Value, which is a measurement of how light (LRV=100) or dark (LRV=0) a color is. A true white paint color would have an LRV of 100.
Sometimes, people think that just because a color has a high LRV, it’s close to being a white color. But nothing could be further from the truth with this hue! It’s so saturated.
What are Benjamin Moore Crystal Springs’ undertones?
BM Crystal Springs has strong green undertones. While I wouldn’t classify this color as a true aqua, it’s definitely close!
Is Crystal Springs warm or cool?
Crystal Springs is a warm blue, thanks to its green undertones. Even in darker rooms, it stays warm and lovely.
Sample BM Crystal Springs Paint
We always recommend that you test paint colors (Article) in your home because lighting can completely change a color, both on interiors and exteriors.
In the old days, this meant we painted a large poster board with sample pots and a huge mess.
Now we have a better way to test paint, with Samplize Peel-and-Stick samples!
- Samples pre-painted with 2 coats of real paint from the manufacturer.
- Large 9” x 14” samples to see the color better in the lighting.
- Delivered overnight
- Colors are accurate
- Less expensive than painting a large poster board with sample pots
- No mess, and no toxic paint to dispose of
I use these in my color consulting practice for exact results. Discover Samplize peel-and-stick paint samples and sample Benjamin Moore Crystal Springs (Sample) via the link below.
Using Benjamin Moore Crystal Springs Interior Paint
BM Crystal Springs paint is a breath of fresh air for a home! Bright hues aren’t for everyone, but if you’re not afraid to embrace some color, then Crystal Springs is a gorgeous option.
What kind of rooms look good with Crystal Springs paint?
Crystal Springs is perfect for a craft room, bedroom (Article), laundry room, or any room that just needs a little bit of joy. I’d love this color in a nursery or a child’s room.
In my client’s bedroom below, Crystal Springs is paired with clean, white linen and simple decor to create a happy yet calming space.
Is Crystal Springs a good paint color for dark rooms?
Absolutely! Crystal Springs is beautiful in a room full of shadows. The bright colors cut through any shadow or cool, North-facing light.
As you can see in my client’s room below, the color gets darker and more saturated in the shadows.
In sunnier areas, it looks like a softer blue.
Can I use BM Crystal Springs for cabinets?
BM Crystal Springs cabinets are not a typical choice, but there are definitely situations in which they could work!
In a bohemian cottage or beach house, for example, Crystal Springs cabinets could look lovely with a white countertop and backsplash to create contrast.
The color is a show all in itself, so I’d keep the finishes simple. Stay away from earthy granites that would look discordant with this color.
Can I use Benjamin Moore Crystal Springs exterior paint?
For most homes, BM Crystal Springs would not be my first choice for a blue exterior paint color (Article). It’s light enough that it could look too bright and stark in the sunshine.
It could be a fun front door paint color, however, and could even work as an exterior hue for a beach cottage.
Is Crystal Springs a good whole-house color?
For most people, BM Crystal Springs is best used as a pop of color in a single room. But if you really like bright colors, this hue could work throughout a home because it works well in sun and shadows.
My preference, however, is to use Crystal Springs paint as part of a whole-house color palette (Article) featuring other bold hues, like the palette shared below. I like to start with a white or neutral foundation for the common living areas and pops of color for the adjacent rooms, such as bedrooms, offices, and dining rooms.
Benjamin Moore Crystal Springs Coordinating Colors
I love the idea of using Benjamin Moore Crystal Springs paint as a bright, sunny accent in a colorful home palette featuring other bold pastels and some darker, highly saturated hues.
Some of my favorite coordinating colors for Crystal Springs include:
- Benjamin Moore Oxford White (Sample)
- Benjamin Moore Collingwood (Article) (Sample)
- Benjamin Moore Cornsilk (Article) (Sample)
- Benjamin Moore Light Salmon (Sample)
- Benjamin Moore Persimmon (Sample)
- Benjamin Moore Herb Garden (Sample)
- Benjamin Moore Newburyport Blue (Sample)
What are the Best Trim and Ceiling Colors For Crystal Springs Paint?
I like to pair this color with white ceiling and trim colors such as BM Chantilly Lace (Article) and BM Oxford White. It will also pair nicely with SW Extra White (Article) or SW Pure White (Article).
I would be careful about pairing with creamier colors such as SW Swiss Coffee (Article) or SW Alabaster (Article), or whites with lots of yellows like BM Simply White (Article).
Best Benjamin Moore Crystal Springs Alternatives
Not sure if BM Crystal Springs is right for you? Here’s how it compares to other popular light blue paint colors.
BM Crystal Springs vs SW Lullaby
Sherwin-Williams Lullaby (Sample) is a soft, warm blue paint color that is very popular for nurseries and kids’ rooms. It is darker, with an LRV of 65 and much more muted. While it does have warm, green undertones, it looks much softer on the wall.
BM Crystal Springs vs BM Bird’s Egg
Benjamin Moore Bird’s Egg (Sample) is another bright blue paint color with warm, green undertones. It is much darker than Crystal Springs, however, with an LRV of 66.84 and leans a bit more toward green.
What Is the Best Sherwin-Williams’ Crystal Springs Alternative?
If you want to use Crystal Springs but want or need to use Sherwin-Williams paints, don’t try to color match it! Color-matched hues never look right. Instead, try Sherwin-Williams Aviary Blue (Sample) (LRV=73) – it is almost identical!

No matter what, always test your paint colors. It’s a standard best practice. Whenever I test my paint colors, they are perfect, and when I don’t test they turn out wrong. Learn how to test your paint colors here.
