Exploring 2025 Kitchen Design Trends with DesignShop

This post on 2025 kitchen design trends features product samples from DesignShop.com, an interior design sample store from the creators of Samplize. All opinions are my own.

Interior design trends are constantly evolving, especially in the kitchen. We wrote a post exploring kitchen color trends in 2019 that quickly became one of our most popular blog posts. But a lot has changed since then, so today, we’re exploring some of the top 2025 kitchen design trends.

Of course, there are so many things to consider when updating your kitchen colors and finishes. Finding the right combination of hues can be really overwhelming—especially if you’re trying to do it yourself!

That’s where DesignShop comes in. DesignShop is an innovative new sample store and a sister company to Samplize (our favorite source for paint color samples). They’ve expanded their sampling capabilities to include many types of hard finishes. It’s a fantastic way to get real-life samples from the comfort of your home to see how different materials and colors will look in your space and lighting.

Please keep reading to learn more about the top 2025 kitchen design trends and our experience using DesignShop samples. We’ve also put together four kitchen color palettes inspired by DesignShop samples!

About The Color Concierge

Creating Kitchen Color Schemes with DesignShop

DesignShop is going to be such a game-changer for homeowners and designers alike! As a paint color consultant, I’ve used Samplize with my clients for years. However, I can absolutely see myself using DesignShop to help my clients visualize paint colors with other hard finishes.

DesignShop allows renovators to sample materials across 15 home improvement categories, including tile, countertops, flooring, wallpaper, and more. You can find samples from top brands like TileBar, Ann Sacks, Cambria, Artistic Tile, Cosentino, and Coordonne. DesignShop makes it easy to start your renovation by offering inspiration and overnight shipping once you’ve selected your samples.

DesignShop offers:

  • Overnight sampling of 1,000+ materials from top brands (including Samplize paint samples) – all delivered in one box!
  • Photorealistic visualization tools so you can see how materials look all together in a space
  • Shoppable room inspiration to quickly get samples used in a designed space you love

I recently used DesignShop for the first time to create the kitchen color palettes featured in today’s post and was really impressed with the speed and quality of the service. Before ordering any samples, I created my own mood boards on Canva (which you’ll see later in this post). I used the catalog photos from Design Shop and dropped them into my mood board templates.

Using DesignShop’s Visualization Feature

I also tried out DesignShop’s visualization feature, and it worked very well. This tool allows you to see how materials will look together in a space and then order directly from the page.

My next step was to order the materials for my four kitchen palettes. It has the same easy-to-use interface as Samplize, and they even include Samplize peel-and-stick samples in the inventory.

Unboxing DesignShop Samples

Just like with Samplize, the samples arrived by FedEx the day after I ordered them. They are relatively inexpensive. My samples ranged from $3 to $7 each. This is minimal compared to the cost of making a mistake on your hard finishes, which can happen if you don’t see them in person.

The samples arrived without one broken piece of tile. The unpackaging experience was amazing. Once I removed the plastic, they were loose and easy to move around.

Each sample had a card that you could link to the QR code. The QR took me back to the website, where I found more information about the product including where to buy, installation images, and product questions.

There is no substitute for seeing finishes in person and in the room, as you can with DesignShop! I used the samples to create real-life mood boards for each of the kitchen color combinations I designed. It was such an easy process, and I know my clients will love it!

We’re always on the lookout for emerging kitchen trends (Article) when we help clients pick kitchen paint colors for their walls or cabinets, but we also keep an eye on industry trend reports, too.

The 2025 National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) Kitchen Trends Report surveyed NKBA members, including designers, architects, manufacturers and contractors. The top trends referenced in the report line up with what we’re seeing real homeowners wanting for their kitchen designs.

Remember: Trends are a great way to get ideas for your kitchen, but make sure that you pick colors and finishes that flow with the rest of the home. If you design a kitchen in isolation, then it will look out of place. This can create a slippery slope where you need to renovate the rest of the house to match the kitchen.

Here are some of the key kitchen trends to know for 2025:

Bold Colors & Statement Cabinets

White and gray kitchens, which were so popular a few years ago, are starting to become outdated. While white cabinets (Article) are still incredibly timeless, more and more homeowners are embracing color in their kitchen designs.

Homeowners are not afraid to include bold colors, statement wallpaper and bold backsplashes in their kitchens to make them personalized and unique. The NKBA report predicts that cabinets will be the primary place to incorporate statement colors.

Colors Inspired by the Past

We also see many colorful kitchens that harken back to the 1970s and mid-century modern styles. I’ve seen several kitchens with yellow and burgundy cabinets in social media and magazines. Those darker, rich colors are balanced with light countertops and backsplashes. The colors aren’t exactly the same yellows and burgundy hues from the 70s, but still lovely.

Mixed Textures & Materials

Homeowners are also mixing and matching lots of different colors and finishes into their kitchens. Tuxedo kitchen cabinet (Article) colors remain popular, but mix-and-match backsplashes and even mismatched lighting fixtures are growing in popularity.

Nature As Inspiration

We’re seeing lots of nature-inspired hues in our client’s kitchens. Green is the most popular color for kitchen cabinets, with 76% of respondents to the NKBA survey choosing it as their top shade for the second year in a row. Other popular colors were blue (63%) and brown (56%). Kitchens with light White Oak cabinets are also popular.

LVP Flooring

We’re seeing more kitchen designs moving away from tiled floors and instead embracing wood-look LVP flooring. The most timeless option is a warm, mid-toned or light wood color. The technology has improved over the last few years. Most production builders use LVP floors because they are bulletproof and waterproof, and even mid-grade versions have become so realistic looking.

Although a kitchen may not exactly be the best candidate for color drenching, rich darker colors from the color-drenching trend (Article) have influenced today’s designs and cabinet colors. And if you really want a bold, one-of-a-kind kitchen, you absolutely could paint kitchen cabinets and walls the same color.

Simple Countertops and Backsplashes

Because we’re seeing bold colors and patterns in cabinets, I prefer to keep walls and wallpaper, countertop and backsplashes simpler. This means simple light backsplashes or the same quartz used for counters and backsplash. When you use the same quartz or stone for counters and backsplash, make sure you specify a material with a very soft pattern. If the pattern is too big and dominant, it can overpower a kitchen.

In order to balance more colorful cabinet colors, they are often light, creamy, and bright.

Our 4 Favorite Kitchen Color Schemes for 2025

Ready to incorporate some of these 2025 kitchen design trends into your home? We used samples from DesignShop to create four gorgeous kitchen palettes, including cabinets, flooring, a backsplash, and paint colors for walls.

Explore these palettes and find the one that inspires your perfect kitchen design.

Natural Green Kitchen Color Scheme

This nature-inspired kitchen color palette features soft green and deep blue cabinets, warm, creamy whites, and wood tones.

I love the combination of green upper cabinets painted with Sherwin-Williams Evergreen Fog and lower cabinets painted with Sherwin-Williams Sea Serpent (Color Review Article). This is a unique, bold take on a tuxedo kitchen cabinet design that is still classic enough to stay relevant for years to come.

The rest of the kitchen is kept pretty neutral, with Sherwin-Williams Pearly White (Color Review Article) walls, Sherwin-Williams Pure White (Color Review Article) trim and ceilings, warm LVT flooring, and white and gray Cambria quartz countertops and backsplash. Brass hardware ties the whole palette together.

White & Blue Kitchen Color Scheme

This timeless kitchen color palette is on-trend for 2025 but classic enough to work for years to come.

Blue is still a popular color for kitchens. This tuxedo kitchen cabinet design is a great way to incorporate dark, bold blue hues without overwhelming the space and making it feel too heavy.

The lower cabinets are painted with Benjamin Moore Hale Navy (Color Review Article) and paired with a gorgeous blue and white tile backsplash from TileBar. Because we picked a rich color and pattern for the lower cabinets and backsplash, I kept the upper cabinets and countertops white. One of our rules of kitchen design is that we only use one pattern per room.

In this kitchen, Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace (Color Review Article) cabinets, Benjamin Moore Calm walls and white quartz countertops come together with warm LVT floors and brass hardware to balance the cooler blue tones.

Yellow Kitchen Color Scheme

This kitchen feels like a modern twist on a classic 1970s design – and I absolutely love it! I can’t wait until a client decides to paint a yellow kitchen!

A little bit of yellow will go a long way when it comes to kitchen design. When you pick a yellow color, make sure that it’s muted, and balance it with lots of white or off-white hues. A very creamy color may not provide enough contrast with the yellow cabinets.

I also have an aversion to black-and-yellow combinations because they make me think of bumblebees. Avoid black hardware and countertops when designing a yellow kitchen.

We used Benjamin Moore Concord Ivory for all of the cabinets in this kitchen mood board, Benjamin Moore Dove Wing walls, Benjamin Moore Oxford White trim and ceilings and a classic white subway tile backsplash.

Because the backsplash isn’t a bold pattern, we were able to go with a slightly bolder countertop design – a Cambria Portrush quartz with gorgeous blue veining. We used satin nickel hardware for this kitchen because brass would not have provided enough contrast with the yellow cabinetry.

Burgundy Kitchen Cabinet Trend

This kitchen color palette is by far the boldest—and it might also be my favorite 2025 kitchen design trend!

This design features bold, burgundy cabinets that really make a statement! We used Benjamin Moore Plum Raisin, a warm burgundy hue that leans more toward red than blue. On the walls, we used a warm, complex cream color with Benjamin Moore Maritime White (Color Review Post). Benjamin Moore Simply White (Color Review Article) is used for trim and ceilings.

We kept the backsplash and countertop simple using the same Everleigh Cambria quartz for both applications. Brass hardware, including really unique cabinet knobs, tie the whole space together.

Key Learning Points

Kitchen design trends for 2025 are embracing color and bold, personalized spaces.

  • Make sure that you pick colors and finishes for your kitchen that flow with the rest of the home. If you design a kitchen in isolation, then it will look out of place. This can create a slippery slope where you need to renovate the rest of the house to match the kitchen.
  • White and gray kitchens are becoming outdated. More homeowners are interested in using bold, warm cabinet paint colors.
  • Warm LVP and LVT flooring is the most popular choice for kitchens and pairs well with other 2025 kitchen trends.
  • DesignShop samples of interior finishes make it easy to sample paint colors, tile, countertops, flooring, and more—all in the comfort of your own home!

Remember: NEVER, EVER use paint matches from a different brand than the one specified. Results are poor and there are no standards for the sheens.  Even though your painter may truly believe it can be done, don’t do it. See results from paint matching here.

No matter what, always test your paint colors. It’s a standard best practice.  Whenever I test my paint colors, they are perfect, and when I don’t test they turn out wrong. Learn how to test your paint colors here.
