Coastal Cottage Kitchen Update

Today we’re sharing the kitchen update from our Coastal Cottage project.  This Rhode Island coastal cottage renovation features bright and fresh paint colors with classic finishes. This kitchen will look as stylish in fifteen years as it does today.

The homeowner asked us to pick their paint colors, which was right up our alley! We chose a coastal paint palette for the interior with our online paint color consulting service. The results were amazing, even though we never visited the property. We showed the exterior here.

Paint Colors

When we pick interior paint colors, we always start with the kitchen cabinets.  We picked Sherwin Williams Extra White for the Decora kitchen cabinets.  With white kitchen cabinets, the trim color should be the same for the rest of the house, a clean white. For a bright look and feel, the walls were painted Sherwin Williams Incredible White.  Although Incredible White is more of a light greige, it reads light and bright without looking like primer.  This grayed white is a lighter version of SW Agreeable Gray (color review).

Counters, Lights, and other Finishes

The countertops are honed Absolute Black Granite, with a medium-toned timeless hardwood floor.

We’re in love with the satin nickel Grant Mini-Pendant over the sink, which functions as a work light when you need it the most.  We picked a larger Grant Pendant for the Kitchen Nook, so we used canned lights instead of pendants over the island.  The widespread kitchen faucet is an inspiration, and a great replacement for a bridge faucet.  I like it so much better!

The classic semi-gloss white subway tile sparkles in the sunlight. We chose stainless steel appliances for a polished look.

The Verdict

Our coastal kitchen update looks fresh and bright as well as classic and timeless.  Does this kitchen remind you of anything? Yup! The iconic kitchen from Something’s Gotta Give with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton from 2003.
