When my paint color consulting team and I visited the House of Hackney flagship store in London recently, we were completely inspired by the gorgeous wallpaper prints on display. As color consultants, we naturally began to dream up all kinds of House of Hackney wallpaper and paint pairings.
Today, we’re sharing some of our favorite House of Hackney wallpaper designs and providing lists of Benjamin Moore paint colors that pair well with each one.
You’ll see photos of wallpaper samples I obtained from the House of Hackney London store. All of the colors recommended were compared and selected from the Benjamin Moore color decks to coordinate and complement the wallpaper colors and patterns.
Of course, just because these colors are recommended by a color expert doesn’t mean they’ll be right for your home. You should always get your own wallpaper and paint samples to test the colors together in your space as there can be slight color differences in every run.

What is House of Hackney Wallpaper?
The House of Hackney is a British luxury brand for household interior finishes, including wallpaper.
This brand takes rich, saturated colors in a maximalist form to the next level. Their colors are all inspired by nature, as are most of their designs.
I first learned about House of Hackney when I saw one of their wallpapers on Instagram. I was so inspired I installed wallpaper in my home for the first time.
I hope you’ll leave this post inspired to use House of Hackney wallpaper in your home.
How To Match Paint To Wallpaper
As a color consulting practice, we don’t select wallpaper but we pick paint colors that harmonize with wallpaper all the time.
I recommend picking your wallpaper first and choosing your paint color from there. When you pick a wallpaper, get a sample first to make sure the colors and the product will work in your room. Most suppliers will sell you a small sample for a nominal fee.
When you pick paint colors to go with wallpaper, the easiest way is to pick a color that is the same shade as one of the colors in the wallpaper. You can also pick a color that is a darker or lighter version of one of the colors.
Because House of Hackney wallpaper is so colorful, you’ll find there are lots of options for coordinating hues throughout this post.
Sample Benjamin Moore Paints
No matter what wallpaper and paint color combination you choose, make sure to test, test, and then test some more. The easiest way to test paint colors is via SAMPLIZE. Their peel-and-stick paint samples are easy to use and accurate to color.
There is no mess, and the cost is less expensive than purchasing a sample and a white poster board. Since you don’t need to dispose of the paint, it’s also environmentally friendly!
With Samplize, you can easily see how different shades look on your unique wall.

House of Hackney Trematonia Wallpaper – Ecru
This gorgeous Trematonia wallpaper is a great option if you want a bold pattern but a more neutral color palette. This nature-inspired wallpaper features animals and plants with a warm, creamy off-white base.
Pair this wallpaper with soft, warm neutral paint colors or paints that match the brighter colors in this print.

House of Hackney Hollyhocks Wallpaper – Spring
This is one of my favorite wallpapers. I love the rich colors! This wallpaper is bright and colorful enough to be used in a child’s bedroom or playroom but also classic enough to use in an office, master bedroom or powder room.
I took this photo of the Hollyhocks wallpaper in the House of Hackney London store. It looks gorgeous used in a color-drenched style with pink trim and ceiling.
This wallpaper is so bright and colorful that there are lots of paint color options that can coordinate.

House of Hackney Artemis Wallpaper – Petrol
The teal background of this House of Hackney floral wallpaper is spectacular. It’s dark and rich and gorgeous! I’ve never seen a photo that does it justice.
This wallpaper is so rich I recommend sticking with coordinating colors instead of pairing with whites or creams. If you do want a creamy trim color, Benjamin Moore Elephant Tusk is a great choice.

House of Hackney Artemis Wallpaper – Off-White
This is the House of Hackney wallpaper I picked for my own powder room. It is gorgeous. I was expecting tones of green in it, but actually, there really aren’t any. Instead, the leaves are violet and really lovely.
Because there really isn’t green and the colors are more focused on blues and violets, many of the colors that go well with this wallpaper are similarly cool. Because of the off-white base, however, it can also pair well with warm whites and neutrals.

House of Hackney London Rose Wallpaper – Blush
The London Rose wallpaper is a very simple wallpaper, by House of Hackney standards. But it is so beautiful and perfect if you want a more understated look.
The wallpaper sample had a warm white background compared to the rosy one shown on the House of Hackney website. This is another reason that you really need to get a sample before you decide to invest on one of these beautiful wallpapers.
I’ve specified lovely cool pink and mauve colors as well as deeper reds and contrasting teal, blue-gray and green colors.

Key Learning Points
Pairing wallpaper and paint colors is a beautiful way to bring bright and bold hues to your home.
- Make sure to get a sample of any wallpaper you hope to use in your home. Slight color variations can happen in each run, and colors often look different in person than they do online.
- Choose a paint color based on the colors in your chosen wallpaper. Match paint colors to hues in the wallpaper or choose colors that are slightly lighter or slightly darker.
- Always test your paint colors and wallpaper together in the space you plan to use it in and in natural light.
As always, don’t forget to test your paint colors! The easiest way to sample any paint color is via SAMPLIZE. Their peel-and-stick paint samples are easy to use and true to color. With Samplize you can easily see how different shades look on your unique wall.
